The View On The Ground (Inside Higher Ed)

"Politicians and the press have had plenty to say about the existence and severity of the student loan 'credit crunch,'" Inside Higher Ed reports. "Now the people who actually know something are weighing in. The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators on Tuesday released a survey of its members, offering the first systematic look at what student aid officers on campuses are actually seeing and doing about the real or perceived lack of student loans for their students."

FSA Releases New Report: "Analysis Of Quality Assurance Program Sample Data: 2006-07"

ED's Office of Federal Student Aid released the report, "Analysis of Quality Assurance Program Sample Data: 2006-07." This report contains findings from 132 of the schools participating in the Quality Assurance Program during the 2006-07 award year. Participating schools drew random samples of aid applicants and required them to complete the applicable Federal Verification Worksheet. FSA conducted a program-wide analysis of the resulting changes to the ISIR data of nearly 63,000 aid applicants who were selected by this exercise.

Issue Alert: NSLDS Postscreening Data On 2008-09 ISIR Records May Incorrectly Indicate Student Is About to Exceed Aggregate Loan Limits

Federal Student Aid has discovered an issue with data provided by the Central Processing System (CPS) to the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS) for use in the postscreening process for 2008-09 Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs). This system issue resulted in the incorrect identification of independent students as dependent students in NSLDS, and as a result, during the NSLDS postscreening process, some students were erroneously flagged as exceeding aggregate loan limits on postscreening Student Aid Report (SAR)/ISIR transactions generated by the CPS.
